p^>T^: Football The football season of 1919 must beconsidered a successful one when we con-sider the obstacles encountered by CoachLodge at the beginning of the season. Asa large number of the young men were inthe service in 1918, a team was not organ-ized then. With only three weeks in whichto prepare for the first game and with noorganization upon which to build, he set towork. He was handicapped to a great ex-tent by the lack of experienced men, butin spite of these difficulties, the team rapidlygained strength and on October 2 7 w^e heldCape Girardeau to a 4-0 score on theirhome field. On November 8 we lost toShurtleff College 7-0 on account of poordefensive work during the first few minutesof play. The remainder of the game wasevenly matched. By November 1 5 ourteamwork had improved and we invaded McKendrees territory, winning from them15-7. When their return game was playedat Carbondale we sent them back with adefeat of 34-0.
