The Riding School, Philips Wouwerman
Summary
Wouwerman is known for his paintings of army camps, cavalry battles and hunting scenes, in which deftly
painted horses always play an important role. Thanks to his eye for detail, these paintings are very lively and anecdotal. In this painting, too, emphasis lies on narrative detail: some horses are being saddled, while a woman and child just manage to avoid being kicked by one of the animals.
