The Royal Navy during the Second World War A27572
Summary
The Royal Navy during the Second World War
A scene in the engine room of HMS BELLONA whilst she is on Russian convoy duty. The men seen are (left to right) Lieutenant (E) P G Whittle RN, of Plymouth; Mechanic 1st Class K F Bowers of Colington, Edinburgh; and Lieutenant (E) K E Lewis RCN, of Saskatoon, Canada. On the convoy a U-Boat was sunk and several German aircraft were shot down. The angle of the photograph and the fact that the men appear to be bracing themselves suggests that the ship is experiencing rough seas.
Large WWII photograph collection made with aid of image recognition.
