Three Forks from Lewis Lookout - Public Domain image, National Parks Gallery
Summary
On August 5, 1805, Meriwether Lewis climbed to the top of a hill now known as Lewis Lookout and located a short distance from Dillon, MT. He hoped to gain a better perspective on the landscape and confirm his belief that the river he called Wisdom (today's Big Hole River) was the tributary to follow upstream to reach the headwaters of the Columbia River.
