Summary
Satire on William Hogarth and his supposed support of Lord Bute. Hogarth seated at his easel wearing a smock and fool's cap paints a portrait of John Wilkes based on his print (Paulson 214); his pug lies beneath his chair; Bute stands behind him; Mrs Hogarth sits at a table beyond in the pose of Hogarth's painting 'Sigismunda mourning over the heart of Guiscardo' (Tate, no.1046).
