Toggle Diamond Sculls 03
Summary
“Diamond Sculls,” a Defense Nuclear Agency weapons effects test, was conducted by DOE in a tunnel at Rainier Mesa. Radiation from the 1972 explosion traveled 2,000 feet down a tapered line—of—sight pipe to the test chambers (here), which were 27 feet In diameter. Fast closure doors in the pipe stopped flying debris and protected the experiments. Cables from the test chambers were connected to data recording equipment In trailers outside the tunnel.
