United States Marine Corps Sgt. Dylon L. Taylor of Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, oversees his recruits as they conduct a patrol mission during the Crucible Dec. 7, 2017, on Parris Island, S.C. Taylor, 25, is from Delta, Colo. The Crucible, recruit training’s 54-hour culminating event, tests the abilities of recruits to work together and complete tasks in a stressful environment. Bravo Company is scheduled to graduate Dec. 15, 2017. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
