United States Marine Corps Third Division Memorial
Summary
Asan Beach Unit - Asan and Agat Invasion Beaches, War in the Pacific National Historical Park. This monument to the 3rd Marine Division overlooks the invasion beach at Asan. It was erected by the Third Marine Division Association to honor the contributions of the 3rd Marine Division battalions that came ashore here on July 21, 1944.
About 55,000 U.S. Marines and Army soldiers participated in the Battle for Guam, and 1,866 American servicemen were killed in action or died from wounds suffered during the twenty-one day conflict.
