U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Aaron Verstraete, a platoon leader, and U.S. Army Spc. Zachary Clapp, a medic, both attached to 1st Platoon, Company B, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), provide overwatch after a mine resistant ambush protected vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device in the Sabari district, Nov. 8, 2012. Elements of 1st Platoon gathered biometric data in the village of Sarwapan Tuy and were hit by the IED when they departed.
