U.S. Army Maj. Charles Pastor, a native of New York City and 372nd Engineer Brigade surgeon, points to a slide during a presentation to Afghan medical workers on the human immunodeficiency virus at Sharana Hospital here Sept. 2. The goal of the class was to increase Afghan medical providers' capacity to properly treat patients suffering from the disease, with the hopes of lowering patient morbidity and mortality over time.
