U.S. Army Reserve Capt. Jeffrey Richards, a veterinarian with the 993rd Medical Detachment, Veterinary Services unit, based in Denver, prepares to administer a tuberculosis test to a cow June 20, at a farm outside of Paramaribo. Soldiers with the Veterinary Services unit is are assisting the Suriname Ministry of Agriculture to develop a tuberculosis testing and surveillance program, which is being designed to improve herd health and minimize the transfer of the disease to humans through milk and beef consumption.
