U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Rafael Ortiz, an anti-terrorism/force protection noncommissioned officer from the U.S. Army South Operational Protection Directorate, front, demonstrates vehicle search techniques to soldiers of the Dominican Republic Army during a force protection/personnel recovery subject matter expert exchange at the 5th Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Barahona, Dominican Republic, March 11, 2014. The Dominican soldiers will assist in force protection during the upcoming Beyond the Horizon exercise which will be held here in Barahona from April through June 2014. BTH is an annual humanitarian exercises which benefits the people of the region. The SMEE benefits both the Dominican soldiers and U.S. Army personnel as it enhances capabilities on personnel recovery, vehicle searches, personnel search and restraint techniques, land navigation, and search and rescue techniques.
