U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Chiles A. Carson, team
Summary
U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Chiles A. Carson, team leader, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment (1/6), 2nd Marine Division (MARDIV), ties a metal cylinder on his pack mule, Abby, to simulate a wire-guided anti-tank missile while participating in an animal packers course at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport, Calif., Sept. 4, 2015. The course is designed to teach Marines the lost combat art of handling pack animals, transporting gear, supplies, and wounded across rugged terrain too difficult for aircraft or vehicles. Marines with 1/6 participate in a month-long field exercise focusing on core mission essential tasks such as assault climbing, animal packing and small unit movements, to strengthen expeditionary high altitude warfare tactics in a mountainous environment against a hybrid threat, as they prepare for world-wide deployment.
