U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Colin J. Newbold, front, and Maj. Mark A. Noble, F-35B Lightning II pilots taxi on a runway in support of Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (WTI) 1-16 at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., Oct. 1, 2015. Newbold's flight was historic in nature since it marked the first WTI class to fully integrate F-35s into the course. WTI 1-16 is a seven week training event hosted by Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) cadre which emphasizes operation integration of the six functions of Marine Corps aviation in support of a Marine Air Ground Task Force. MAWTS-1 provides standardized advanced tactical training and certification of unit instructor qualifications to support Marine Aviation Training and Readiness and assists in developing and employing aviation weapons and tactics.
