U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Loan Nguyen, a chief drill instructor with Recruit Processing Company, Support Battalion, encourages recruits to run faster during a 1.5-mile run June 3, 2017, on Parris Island, S.C. Nguyen, 27, is from Orlando. After passing the initial strength test, these recruits will be assigned to Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, which is scheduled to graduate Aug. 25, 2017. Approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
