description

Summary

U.S. Marines Corps officers, assigned to the Marine Corps Detachment (MARDET), embarked aboard High Speed Vessel (HSV 2) Swift, conduct a subject matter expert exchange about weapons and range procedures, with officers of the Peruvian Marine Corps, as part of Southern Partnership Station (SPS 12) 2012. The two Marine Corps will spend three weeks exchanging ideas and conducting practical exercises on areas that will include basic rifle marksmanship, patrolling in a desert environment, combat tactics and demolition techniques. HSV-SPS is an annual deployment of U.S. Navy ships and assets to the U.S. Southern Command's area of responsibility in the Caribbean, Central and South America. The exercise involves information sharing with Navies, Coast Guards and civilian services throughout the region. It also reiterates the countries partnership and commitment to regional cooperation throughout Latin America. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. 1st Class Alan B. Owens, 55th Signal Company (COMCAM)/Released)
