Summary

U.S. Marines with Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina, participate in the 75th Anniversary Celebration of MCAS New River, on New River, April 26, 2019. The purpose of the event was to celebrate and remember the history of the installation and provide an opportunity for the tenant commands to compete against one another in field events such as the pugil sticks, the tug-of-war, the Dizzy Izzy relay, a tire flipping relay and the Humvee pull. “Events like this are an important part of staying in touch with our legacy and traditions as United States Marines,” said Col. Russell C. Burton, commanding officer, Marine Corps Air Station New River. “It is very easy to get lost in the day to day grind and we have to actually make time to go out and do things such as pugil sticks, Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and other physically challenging events simply because that is what we joined to do. This is another opportunity to do exactly that,” he said. The winners of the 75th Anniversary Celebration competition were the Marines from Marine Aircraft Group 29.
