U.S. Marines with Task Force Southwest provide security during a movement to meet with the 1st Operational Kandak near Bost Airfield, Afghanistan, Sept. 13, 2017. The advisors met with key leaders and held a shura to discuss any shortfalls that can be addressed in the future. This visit helps set conditions for future advisor missions to improve the Kandak’s operational readiness. As part of the new U.S. South Asia strategy, Marines will begin advising down to the brigade- and kandak-level where necessary to support Afghan National Defense and Security Force operations.
