U.S. Naval Base, Pearl Harbor, Naval Housing Area Makalapa, Carport Type with Central Storage Rooms, Various locations throughout housing area, Pearl City, Honolulu County, HI
Summary
Significance: The carports are important elements in the overall neighborhood because their repetition and siting, together with the housing and landscaping, provides a unity and variety that contributes to the character of the area. One carport is usually placed between two houses and since each duplex requires one carport, two carports are sited between the duplex buildings. The carports are located close to the street while the residences are set back. Another pleasing pattern is the alternation of small carports and larger houses.
