U.S. Under Secretary of the Army Dr. Joseph W. Westphal inspects a Chilean unit flag used in 1880 during the War of the Pacific, which involved Chile, Peru, and Bolivia during a recent visit to the History Museum of Morro de Arica, which commemorates the Battle of Arica, June 11, 2012 in Arica, Chile. Dr. Westphal participated in the 12th U.S. - Chile Defense Consultative Commission and visited with select Chilean Army units to expand partnership capacity. The U.S. - Chilean defense partnership is focused on a range of initiatives, from disaster response to conducting joint exercises and training.
