Summary

March is Women’s History month, and we want to highlight some of the amazing women here at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on our social media sites.
Name: Christy Vigfusson
Title: Chief, Progams Branch, Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Programs
Duty station: Headquarters, Falls Church, VA
Where did you go to school: Cornell University (M.S.) and Ohio University (B.S.)
What did you study? Soil Science (M.S.) and Environmental and Plant Biology (B.S.)
How did you get interested in conservation? I got interested in conservation by spending time outdoors with my family as a kid. I loved being on or by the water, enjoying the woods, fishing and boating, and appreciating our natural world. I knew when I went to university that I wanted to know more about our natural world, so I got into a great environmental and plant biology program.

What’s your favorite species and why? The green sea turtle is my favorite species. As a teenager, I remember going to the beach at night to see sea turtles nesting in the early summer months. It was such a majestic sight. They are such beautiful and generally long-lived animals.
