Summary

Women in Wildlife
March is Women’s History Month, and we want to highlight some of the amazing women here at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on our social media sites.
Name: Kathryn Brenner (Kate)
Title: Biological Science Technician
Duty station: Julia Butler Hansen Refuge for the Columbian White-tailed Deer
Female Conservation Hero or Mentor: I know he’s not female, but Steve Irwin was my hero when I was young. He was a great teacher and although he did some crazy things that I may now see as destructive, he did wonders for environmental education! I never saw being a female as a hindrance to a career in conservation. I always knew I could work with wildlife and loved being outdoors. We’d go camping as kids and I spent many a summers documenting where the bald eagles were nesting and how often the great blue heron would fly along our lake shore in Minnesota.
Where did you go to school or military branch: I received my Bachelors in Fisheries and Wildlife from Oregon State University. I’m also an Army National Guard veteran.
What’s your favorite thing about working for FWS? I love being able to make a difference and seeing an effectual change.

What’s your favorite species and why? The leopard is by far my favorite animal and always has been. They’re gorgeous, sneaky, sly and a little lazy; but who can blame them, lying in a tree after a nice meal is a great past time!
