Summary

March is Women’s History month, and we want to highlight some of the amazing women here at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on our social media sites.
Name: Sarah Bielski
Title: Wildlife Biologist
Duty station: Portland Regional Office
Where did you go to school: Indiana University – School of Public and Environmental Affairs
What did you study: Graduate program for Environmental Policy and Natural Resource Management / Applied Ecology
How did you get interested in conservation? My love of nature began with countless hours of childhood “creeking” - wading through a creek and catching wildlife with a dip-net. I am still exploring nature thanks to the insatiable desire creeking instilled in me. Childhood wonder turned into lifelong passion, and I am more than proud to be a wildlife biologist for USFWS.

What’s your favorite species and why? I have so many! One of my favorites is the surf scoter. Their forage flocking mechanism is truly incredible. They exhibit such a high degree of cohesion and synchrony. They are also uniquely beautiful.
