Summary

March is Women’s History month, and we want to highlight some of the amazing women here at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on our social media sites.
Name: Shauna Ginger
Title: Ecosystem Services Biologist
Duty station: Oregon Fish & Wildlife Office, Portland
Female Conservation Hero or Mentor: I kept this iconic National Geographic picture of Jane Goodall reaching out to a chimp at my study desk in college for inspiration. My undergrad mentor, Dr. Cindy Sagers, and my first FWS supervisor, Cary Norquist, significantly shaped the woman and biologist I am today.
Where did you go to school:
B.S. - University of Arkansas (woo pig sooiee!); M.S. – Oklahoma State University
How did you get interested in conservation? I was an outdoorsy and critter-loving kid, but the conservation bug bit me in a field ecology class and really sunk in during my first job. Running a field crew working on the federally threatened Louisiana black bear, the connection between research, management, partnerships and conservation was eye opening. My career path took a quick turn towards the conservation field.

If you could have one incredible animal adaptation, what would it be? Hmmm – it’s a tie between flight or seal fur (I’m not a fan of being cold!)
