USFWS Veterans Fire Corps Plant Milkweed (19939174829)

Created in 2011, the Student Conservation Association’s Veterans Fire Corps trains and engages teams of military veterans in wildland fire mitigation. Projects include fuels reduction, fire effects monitoring, educational outreach, pre-fire preparation of burn units, and participation in prescribed fires. While the Veterans Fire Corps were visiting the Inland Northwest National Wildlife Refuge Complex, members were able to participate on hazardous fuels reduction and habitat restoration projects on Little Pend Oreille and Turnbull Refuges.
