Vice Adm. Walter E. “Ted” Carter Jr., superintendent,
Summary
Vice Adm. Walter E. “Ted” Carter Jr., superintendent, U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, Md., and portrait artist Gerald Slater pose for a photo during Carter’s presidential portrait unveiling at U.S. Naval War College (NWC) in Newport, R.I. Carter served as NWC’s 54th president from July 2013 to July 2014 before his appointment to vice admiral and assignment as 62nd superintendent of USNA. The NWC’s collection of presidential portraits is more than a century old, dating to 1900 when it acquired Frederick Vinton’s huge portrait of Rear Adm. Stephen B. Luce, NWC’s first president. During the unveiling, staff and faculty were joined by Slater and members of NWC Foundation and NWC Museum. (U.S. Navy photo by Chief Mass Communication Specialist James E. Foehl/Released)
