Michele Mang began his career as a photographer in the early 1860s, working with the pioneering photographer Giuseppe Levi. In 1864 he opened his own studio in Turin, specialising in portrait photography. He quickly gained a reputation for his ability to capture the essence of his subjects, and his portraits were sought after by the aristocracy and upper classes of Turin. In addition to his portrait work, Mang also became known for his landscape photography. He travelled extensively throughout Italy and Europe, capturing stunning images of mountains, lakes and other natural landscapes. His photographs were often used in travel guides and promotional material, helping to promote tourism in Italy. Mang continued to work as a photographer until his death in 1909. Today his work is highly regarded for its technical mastery and artistic sensibility. Many of his photographs are in the collections of museums and galleries throughout Italy and Europe.
