Summary
The clothes of this elegant Virgin reflect French courtly fashions of around 1400. Fashionably dressed and not wearing a crown, she resembles a young noblewoman. There are few other statues of the Virgin from this period with such an aristocratic air. For this reason it is thought
that this one was probably made for someone close to the French court.
