Summary

Significance: Included on the L'Enfant and Ellicott plans of the city, this was the first circle to be landscaped as a park. It offers vistas down Pennsylvania Avenue toward the White House, northeast up New Hampshire Avenue to Dupont Circle and due south on 23rd Street to the Lincoln Memorial. The equestrian state of George Washington is among the American Revolutionary statues listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
