Summary

Volume two continues to record events from April 1817 through to November 28, 1853. However, in the back of the book there is a report from Sept. 28, 1818, a continued warrant results for April 30, 1931, and a continuation of August and November 1831 meetings (names are also listed). This volume contains the momentous decision to change the name of the town again from East Sudbury to a choice of Wayland, Penrose, Clarence, Fayette or Waybridge. Feb. 9, 1835, the name, Wayland, received the majority votes. March 11, 1835, the town officially used the name Wayland. This volume shows the long consideration and creation of the town library. An official recognition of Cochituate village by using the Cochituate post office for posting town notices was made on Feb. 16, 1852. Highway workers were paid 10¢ a day. The town was constantly sued or billed for damage done to persons, animals and equipment on the road ways. Lists of jurors throughout the year is provided. Dogs need licensing.
