White Flames and Evening - Homestead National Monument of America
Summary
This painting is the artist’s interpretation of one pioneer family’s evening. The shelling of corn, their preoccupation and perhaps a story or two. Regardless of the simple furnishings which were the dire necessities for perseverance, courage and fortitude make up the strength of this family gathering, and which the artist hopes prevails in its depiction. I believe the element of peace is evident.
