WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. – Jesse Baltazar, 95, a Bataan Death March survivor wipes his face during a survivor talk on March 19, 2016 a day prior to the 27th Annual White Sands Missile Range, N.M., Memorial Bataan Death March. Baltazar joined the 71st Battalion, U.S. Armed Forces Far East right after the Japanese Bombed Pearl Harbor. Three days into the Bataan Death March, Baltazar escaped and joined the Filipino resistance. After being discharged from the Army in the 1945 he became the first Filipino born officer in the United States Air Force in 1948, retiring at the rank of Major. (U.S. Army photo by: Staff Sgt.
