With the assistance of two canes, U.S. Army Capt. Domenico Lazzaro, a specialty branch recruiter with the New Jersey Army National Guard, stands at attention during the national anthem at Joint Force Headquarters located at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., Oct. 18, 2018. On June 11, 2017, Lazzaro fell while navigating an obstacle course at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and fractured his T8 vertebrae. The seven-hour surgery left him paraplegic.
