On Dec. 21, Staff Sgt. Micheal Bird, of Bristol, Conn., walks away from a ministry of defense hospital with a smile knowing that the government of Iraq's ministry of health is going to make this hospital operational for the residents of the Istaqlal Qada. Bird is a combat medic with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment Wolfhounds, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team Warrior, 25th Infantry Division, currently attached to 3rd BCT, 4th Inf. Div., Multi-National Division-Baghdad.
