Woodland Paths - National Parks Gallery
Summary
Montrose Park. Burnap included two images of these paths in this 1916 book, "Parks: Their Design, Equipment, and Use." It appears that the path surface was made of gravel, and flagstones were used as steps on the steep sections. It is possible that some of these paths date to the estate era. These paths provided a connection to Lovers' Lane and to the paths along a stream that fed Rock Creek. A) and B) Historic flagstone steps in the woodland, 1916 ("Parks: Their Design, Equipment, and Use" by George Burnap); C) Remnant steps in 2003; D) Steps uncovered in 2008.
