Dover AFB, Delaware

Overview

Dover Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force base located near Dover, Delaware. It is the home of the 436th Airlift Wing, the Air Force Mortuary, and the 512th Airlift Wing. The base is also a major port of entry for the United States, with over 2 million passengers and 1 million tons of cargo passing through each year.

History

Dover AFB was established in 1941 as a training base for World War II pilots. The base was named after Dover, Delaware, which is located about 5 miles (8 km) to the south. After the war, Dover AFB became a major transportation hub for the United States military. In the 1950s, the base was used to transport troops and supplies during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. In the 1990s, Dover AFB played a major role in the Persian Gulf War and the Kosovo War.

Mission

The mission of Dover AFB is to provide global airlift, mortuary, and aerial port services to the United States Air Force and other Department of Defense agencies. The base is also responsible for providing support to the local community.

Community

Dover AFB is located in a rural area of Delaware. The base is a major employer in the area, and it contributes significantly to the local economy. The base also has a strong relationship with the local community.
