Think of the advantages to be derived from a photographwhen any disputed point arises, as it often does, in the struc-ture of an organism. One observer says he sees a certainformation, while another sees something quite different. Thepoint of focus, nay, even the illumination, may make all thedifference, and without tangible evidence in support of onescontention a verbal dispute may continue indefinitely. Herea picture of the matter in question at once puts the disputantson common ground, tells if they are taking the same stand-point, and enables them to join issue in a rational way oragree on the cause of divergent opinions.
