A group of berry pickers on the farm of Mr. Giles, Seaford, Del. 3 children are 3 years of age, 3 are 4 years old, 1 is 5 years old, and 1 is 6 years old. During the berry season the families get out into the field at 4 o'clock in the morning, and each child is assigned to 2 rows of berry growth, each 300 yards, long, and when the whistle of the padrone sounds they start picking and generally quit work about 1 P.M. There are days when the work continues until 4 and 5 o'clock in the evening.  Location: Seaford, Delaware.

A product of the cotton mill. Frank Barnes, Box 463, Phoenix, Alabama. Been working over forty years in the cotton mills of Columbus, Ga. Started at 4 years old for 20 cents a day. Now getting $2. and is getting ready to be replaced by younger man. An ardent Socialist which has made him trouble here. Says, "I had to put one of my girls into the Mill when she was 9 yrs old, or steal. Why don't they give us enough wages to support our families? They don't intend to do that." Stringing wooden buttons (button moulds) in a crowded home, Williamsburg, Massachusetts. Mrs. Weeks and her children 13 years, 11 years, 7 years and her grand children 7 years, 5 years and 4 years old, all working after school, holidays, etc., stringing these button moulds. Mrs. Weeks said that the most they ever made was from $7 to $10 a month; usually less. The house was crowded up and the floor not very clean. Mrs. Weeks said that one time the children were all confined to the house by scarlet fever, and then she strung the most buttons she ever did.  Location: Williamsburg, Massachusettsachusetts.
