KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - A crack formed on a piece of insulation on a strut that attaches the liquid oxygen feedline to External Tank-119, being used to launch space shuttle mission STS-121. This piece of foam, weighing approximately 0.0057 pounds, is three inches long and one-eighth to one-quarter inch wide. It fell from the tank and was recovered by the Ice Team from the mobile launch platform at Pad 39B. It is believed that the rain experienced during yesterday’s launch attempt of Discovery caused water to run down the feedline and form ice near the strut next to the feedline bracket. As the tank warmed and expanded, the ice that formed most likely pinched the foam on the top of the strut, causing a crack and eventual loss of the small piece of foam. Victorious purgees shelve administration's neutrality legislation for term. Washington, D.C., July 11. By a vote of 11-12, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today shelved the consideration of neutrality legislation until next term of Congress. By defeating the Pittman Resolution, they dashed the administration's hopes for repealing the arms embargo. Gillette vigorously denied that he voted as he did simply to take revenge for the president's attempt to defeat him at the last election. Both Senator Walter George, left, and Guy Gillette, right, have been in the center of a question mark since it became known that the committee would vote on neutrality legislation today. Both were intended victims of the 1938 [...], and today held controlling votes in the meeting

It is admitted by all that the leaders of the Bolsheviks have made the most effective use of propaganda in the history of psychology. They have anticipated the moral and mental reactions of laboring and farming classes General Denikine's government is making an attempt to counteract the mis-education of the Reds by a very active bureau of propaganda contra Bolshevism. This photograph depicts one of the most ambitious attempts of the Denikine bureau of propaganda. It is a picture 20x20 feet at the head of the main square of Kharkof. Over the rampart of the castle of Bolshevism which significantly includes the spires of synagogues, is climbing clovenfooted, scarlet Trotsky. In the dungeon are piles of skulls, the victims of his evil genius. To the left rides the grinning mercenary of the Bolshevik army. At the lower right hand corner is a Russian peasant in his working shirt, being questioned by an intellectual, whose eye-glasses are ostentatious. Eager to get at the bound peasant is a group of chinese torturers, who, as a matter of fact, are attached to the "extraordinary councils" of the chief cities. Wild-eyed and curious, throngs study this poster by the hour

Boston furrier appears before Senate Naval Affairs Committee. Washington, D.C., May 17. Philip Krupp, a Boston furrier, today sought the Senate Naval Affairs Committee support for his drive to reinstate his 22 yr. old brother in the Naval Academy and remove from his name the "stigma of falsehood." He petitioned the committee to approve a bill directing the reinstatement of his brother, Fredrick Krupp, who, he contended, was "forced to resign" from the academy in January because of a thoughtless statement with attempt to decieve. Philip said his brother had been refused a position with the Martin Aircraft Co. and denied admission to the Massachusetts. Institute of Technology because of an untrue statement attached to all of Fred's records from the academy that he was permitted to resign for the good of the navy, he is shown left; pleading the case before the acting chairman of the committee Sen. Guy Gillette. D. of IA.
