CAPE KENNEDY, Fla. -- At Cape Kennedy Air Force Station in Florida, a thrust augmented improved Delta lifts off with a three hundred eighty five pound geodetic Explorer spacecraft, designated GEOS-A. The spacecraft contains five geodetic instrumentation systems to provide simultaneous measurements that scientists require to establish a more precise model of the Earth's gravitational field, and to map a world coordinate system relating points on, or near the surface to the common center of mass.
