CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - In Orbiter Processing Facility Bay 2 at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, a technician spray paints simulated thrusters on the space shuttle Endeavour. The work is part of Transition and Retirement of the remaining space shuttles, Endeavour and Atlantis. Endeavour is being prepared for public display at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. Its ferry flight to California is targeted for mid-September. Endeavour was the last space shuttle added to NASA’s orbiter fleet. Bell may succeed McCarl. Acting Director of the Budget, Daniel W. Bell, is considered a possible successor to J.R. McCarl as Comptroller General. McCarl's 14 year term expires next June. Bell is understood to have refused to take the appointment as permanent director of the Bureau of the Budget because it would cost him his Civil Service status, which he has cherished for 15 years. But the term of 14 years as Comptroller General might influence him to case aside his "career" record. In addition to other jobs, Bell is commissioner of accounts and deposits, a position he held when he was drafted to replace Lewis Douglas, the former director of the Budget. Bell, under Civil Service, draws $10,000 a year. This photograph shows Bell near the fireplace in his office in the Treasury Building

Last Austrian Minister to lecture at Georgetown University. Washington, D.C., Sept. 20. Edgar L.G. Prochnik, whose long career as Minister of Austria to the United States came to an end when Hitler absorbed his country into the German Reich, will teach and lecture at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Commerce this term. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – A technician controls a special crane as it lifts a newly removed fuel cell from space shuttle Endeavour's payload bay. The operation took place inside Orbiter Processing Facility-2 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. All three of Endeavour's fuel cells were removed and will be drained of fluids. The hydrogen and oxygen dewars which feed reactants to the fuel cells remain in Endeavour's midbody and will be purged with inert gases and vented down. The work is part of the Space Shuttle Program's transition and retirement processing of shuttle Endeavour, which is being prepared for public display at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. Its ferry flight to California is targeted for mid-September. Endeavour was the last space shuttle added to NASA's orbiter fleet.
