Parts needed by U.S. Maritime Commission being inspected at the first OPM (Office of Production Management) permanent exhibit at which samples of needed defense equipment and parts are shown to prospective producers. The exhibit opened on Tuesday, December 23 in the Boatmen's Bank building in Saint Louis, Missouri. Bits and pieces of needed war goods were exhibited by fourty-eight holders of large war contracts and by the Army, Navy and the U.S. Maritime Commission. It is planned to change the articles displayed in this exhibit as some of them become placed under contracts and subcontracts. Representatives of the Contract Distribution Division will be available regularly to advise manufacturers attending the exhibit. Similar routine exhibits are scheduled to open shortly in other cities throughout the country

Parts needed by U.S. Maritime Commission being inspected at the first OPM (Office of Personnel Management) permanent exhibit at which samples of needed defense equipment and parts are shown to prospective producers. The exhibit opened on Tuesday, December 23 in the Boatman's Bank Building in St. Louis, Missouri. Defense housing, Erie, Pennsylvania. Living conditions were so crowded in Erie, Pennsylvania, that a defense worker and his family of three were found to be living in this attic room. One of the defense industries there, which holds large contracts for the Navy, expects an increase of 4,000 workers during the coming year. Practically all vacancies are already taken, and even the contemplated construction of new homes will fill only a fraction of the need. Realizing the urgency of this need, the Division of Defense Housing has programmed 300 homes in this area, 60 of which are already completed (July 1941). In the meantime, trailers are being used by the Division as a temporary expedient until the more permanent homes are completed

They are currently between 20 to 40 percent complete under contracts totaling $3.7 million and are scheduled to open later this year.
