Carts are made very light in weight and the shafts are so attached that it is easy for horse to pull it out of swamp and mud. Harness allows horses great freedom of movement, and yet it can be easily and perfectly controlled by driver. Essential part of harness is enormous yoke. Horses are small but very tough and they are very well cared for

King and Queen of England inspect Red Cross activities at the American military hospital Dartford, near London. The King was escorted through the hospital by the Commander, Col. E.H. Fiske of Brooklyn; the Queen by Miss Annie Mack of Brooklyn, the Chief Nurse; the Princess by major Henry M. Moses of Brooklyn. Red Cross officers behind him. In the wards and along the road through the grounds they had little conversations with scores of the men, both convalescents and cot cases, and the King shook hands with hundreds, congratulating them all on the "wonderful work the Americans are doing over here." He received a remarkable ovation from the Americans, who liked his frank democratic manner, his deep resonant voice and his hearty was of saying, "If there is anything we can do for you at anytime, we want to know it and shall take real pleasure in doing it"

Professor Earle D. Babcock of New York University arrives in England on his way to American Red Cross Headqaurters in Paris, where he will be in charge of the new school for Training Red Cross Personnel. On his arrival in London he received a letter which he is seen reading. It was from the officer commanding the American troops on board the great liner on which Prof. Babcock commanded a detachment of Red Cross workers. The letter said, "The work of your Red Cross officers and nurses on board our ship made it possible to save the lives of a number of American soldiers who would otherwise have been lost. Please accept this expression of our deep and lasting sense of obligation." The reference is to a large number of influenza cases among the soldiers, who were cared for by the Red Cross personnel

In good care. Among the refugees rescued at Novorossiisk a short time before the fall of the city there were thirty orphaned children who were put in charge of the American Red Cross. The children had become lost from their parents during the rush of evacuation and were left helpless. The Red Cross Officers loaded them on a boat and they are now being cared for on the island of Proti, along with more than a thousand other refugees.
