In the canister is an Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM). ESSM is an international cooperative upgrade of the RIM 7 NATO Sea Sparrow Missile, providing increased battle space against high-speed, highly maneuverable anti-ship missiles. McCAMPBELL is the first ship to deploy with the ESSM
