The master workman. Sitting cross-legged in his tiny shop in one of the queer streets of Prizren, this Turkish artisan works long hours every day making sugar tongs, napkin rings and all sorts of silver filligree works. Serving as an apprentice in his shop is a Serbian boy who was adopted by the silversmith from the American Red Cross orphanage in Skopjle. He, too, is becoming an expert at fashioning the most elaborate designs out of silver which is purer than sterling

Purer than sterling. These beautifully wrought sugar tongs and napkin rings are made of silver that is "purer than sterling", beaten and woven into shape in a small shop across from the big American Red Cross hospital in Skopjle, south Serbia. Ther sic were made by the Turkish craftsman by an ancient process which has been used for the last thousand years by the moslem artists. Silver coins are melted down and the metal drawn into fine wire. Then with tiny pliers, anvila, and hammers, the master workman twist and pound the metal into intricate scrolls and wreaths for silverware
