The transfer of the fifty four buildings, covering nineteen acres of ground in the Columbia Oval, was made October 3. President Nicholas Murray Butler, of Columbia, made the formal transfer to Col. B.R. Schreiner, of the United States Medical Corps. Ground was broken on May 1, 1917, and the sum of $281,000 for its equipment and maintenance has been raised. The largest single donation was that of Daniel G. Reid, the banker, who gave $175,000. Accomodates 1,000 patients

U.S. Forest Service could be scuttled if government reorganization plan goes thru, senate committee told. Washington, D.C., Aug 3. Appearing before the Senate Committee considering President Roosevelt's Government Reorganization Program, Col. W.B. Greely former Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, gave warning today that powers granted in the bill might mean the Forest Service "would be dismembered like Poland, scattered to the four winds or abolished altogether". He also charged that the proposal to change the name of the Interior Department to the Department of Conservation was a plan to transfer the Forest Service out of the Department of Agriculture to the Interior Department, 8/3/37

New York Mayor advocates giving control of commercial aviation to 100. Washington, D.C., April 12. Appearing before the Senate Interstate Subcommittee today, New York City's Mayor Fiorello La Guardia advocated enactment of the McCarran Bill to transfer control over commercial aviation from the Department of Commerce to the Interstate Commerce Commission. The Mayor said: "the 100 has had a generation of experience and has been very successful in promoting safety in railroad transportation" speaking the recent crash of an airliner near Pittsburgh, the Mayor said he believed there is "no doubt" that the crash was caused by "structural defects," 4/12/1937

Senator Wheeler's Senate Committee began today started investigation of the latest transfer of control of the Van Sweringen Railroad Empire. McNutt, High Commissioner to the Philippines who arrived in Washington today to make an official report, conferred at length with Secretary of War Harry H. Woodring this morning. Following the meeting both declined to comment on the transfer of Lt. Col. Davenport Johnson from Hamilton Field, Calif., to Chanute Field, Ill. Johnson is the flyer who piloted McNutt and his administrative assistant from San Francisco to Denver in an Army plane.
