The largest American farm in Great Britain is that maintained by the American Red Cross as an appendage of the new Red Cross hospital at Sarisbury, near Southampton. More than three fourths of the 186 acres estate surrounding the hospital site has been laid out for intensive farming, and the Red Cross will raise all the vegetables and dairy products required for the big hospital. The photograph shows the farm "headquarters." The farm is in charge of Frank Sherman Peer of Rochester, N.Y. who might well be called an international farmer, for he owns farms in New Jersey, New York, England, and on the Island of Guernsey in the English Channel. This latter farm is his "pet" and has been for many years a show-place and a model. There he makes one acre of ground produce four tons of hay, and makes 25 acres support 75 head of cattle

Henry P. Davison Chairman of the War Council of the American Red Cross, inspects American Military, Naval, and Red Cross Activities in the South of England. Mr. Davison made a two day trip by Auto through Southern England. The first American troops he saw after leaving London, were a column of several thousand negros from Alabama marching up a hill in Winchester to a railroad station. The almost continuous downpour of rain did not prevent Mr. Davison from getting out of his car frequently to inspect things and people. He is shown here watching the line of negro troops turn sharply on the hill, where a group of the Red Cross women were passing out chocolate and cigarettes. All these troops were about to entrain for France

Cows of History. Extraordinarily beautiful and picturesque are the long-horned, snow white cows of the Tuscan valleys in Italy. Their horns measure about twenty inches across and their silky tails often sweep the ground. Since the war they are becoming very scarce owing to lack of fodder, and land holders are haunted by mythological tales of the Middle Ages when they disappeared altogether. Invaders from the North brought this breed of cattle into Italy and they were so admired by the early Romans that they each year offered up the whitest and most beautiful one as a sacrifice, gilding its horns and garlanding them with rare flowers. The Italian government presented this pair to the Agricultural Colony of the Junior Red Cross of America orphanage and vocational school where several hundred war orphans are learning scientific farming and undergoing training for their future independence

A Garrison Flag, the largest authorized for the military, from the US Army Band at Fort Myers, Virginia, is delivered to the Pentagon as a backdrop for US President George W. Bushs visit to the impact site. The morning before, in an attempt to frighten the American people, five members of Al-Qaida, a terrorist group of fundamentalist Muslims, hijacked American Airlines Flight 77, then flew it into the Pentagon killing all 64 passengers onboard and 125 people on the ground. Firefighters fought the fire through the night. The Pentagon was the third target by four hijacked aircraft, the twin towers of the World Trade Center (WTC) were the other targets, and one unknown when the passengers...
