John Michalek, from Buffalo, N.Y., right, observes as Ensign Alexandra Sherenco, from Cambridge, England, gives coordinates from a Voyage Management System (VMS) in the pilot house of the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48) while underway in Guam. Ashland, is in Guam for a scheduled voyage repair availability (VRAV) while Marines of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct unit-level training ashore. Ashland and the 31st MEU are operating in Inod-Asia-Pacific region to enhance partnerships and be a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
