Dirt levees in Valley City, N.D.

VALLEY CITY, N.D. -- While a Coast Guard helicopter from Corpus Christi, Texas, was pre-staged in Valley City April 18, 2009 to quickly respond to emergencies, its crew and National Guardsmen walk over a fortified dirt levee along the Sheyenne River that swelled from heavy rainfall. The Coast Guard is working jointly with federal, state and local agencies to help North Dakota residents impacted by recent flooding along the Red River and its tributaries.
