description

Summary

Significance: Building T-10600 is a Walk-Covered-Enclosed, Type WK-2, one of three types of walkways that connect the buildings at the hospital area. It is the most common of the walkways that also include WK-1, Walk-Covered-Open (HABS NO. WI-308-ET) and WK-3, Fireproof Walk (HABS NO. WI-308-ES). The majority of the Type WK-2 walkways were constructed during 1942, with some minor extensions being built in 1943 as buildings were added in that year. All of these types of corridors provided protected passageways that connected wards to clinics, barracks, mess halls, recreation buildings, and almost all of the other types of structures in the hospital area. In addition, the covered enclosed walkways housed the piping for the steam heating system for the hospital complex.
